Jessica Nooney
Jessica Nooney was born in Manhattan in 1938, the year of Kristallnacht, as the only child of a Jewish mother who was a classical pianist and an Irish Baptist father turned Atheist painter-photographer. She studied dance, physics, literature and poetry at Juilliard, Bard College and Hunter College and graduated in 1976. After a career in modern dance, she become involved until today in computer graphics, painting and poetry.
Jessica won the “Best Emerging Poet” award at the LGBT Center in Manhattan in 1994 where she gave a solo performance of her works.
Her poems have been included in the following anthologies: Riverside Poets, New York, 2014 to 2018 editions; Parkside Poets New York, 2013 to 2018 editions, and Wild Angels Poetry Anthology 2004 - 2010.
Jessica Nooney has performed her spoken word poems with The Womanshare Collective at the Cornelia Street Café in 2009 and has been a featured poet and has read her work several times in many poetry venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn such as the West Side Arts Coalition on Broadway, New York, in 2016 and 2017; The Riverside Poets from 2015 to 2018; and in The Three of Cups in 2017.
She has displayed her visual poetry at art shows at The West Side Arts Coalition in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
